On September 22, KSFW celebrated Chuseok, Korea’s Autumn Harvest Festival, with our annual songpyeon-making contest.

Students of all ages participated in the school-wide competition to see which class could make the most beautiful plate of songpyeon rice cakes, a classic holiday dessert.
Some students molded their sticky rice dough into traditional half-moon shapes and still others created less conventional designs.
The handcrafted songpyeon were then steamed on a bed of fragrant pine needles and proudly displayed for all to admire (and devour shortly thereafter).
In addition to the songpyeon-making contest, KSFW invited a samulnori percussionist troupe to lead our students in an energetic performance of the ganggangsullae circle dance, another time-honored Chuseok tradition.
Our students had a rollicking good time (and a pretty decent workout to boot!) as they whirled hand in hand around the gymnasium floor.

지난 9월 22일 페더럴웨이 통합한국학교에서 신나는 추석잔치가 열렸다.
해마다 열리는 학급대항 송편빚기 경연대회에서는 도톰하고 예쁘장한 반달모양의 전통송편에서부터 각양각색으로 빚어낸 퓨전송편들까지 등장해서 심사위원들의 웃음을 자아냈다.
학생들이 빚은 송편들은 곧바로 솔잎을 깔아 찜기에서 찌워졌고, 모두 함께 찐송편을 맛보며 즐거운 추석을 만끽했다.
한편 김수아 단장의 울림팀이 흥을 돋구며 이끈 강강술래 놀이는 유아반 어린이들부터 성인반 학생들 모두를 흥겨움의 도가니로 몰아넣었다.
함께 어우러져  강강술래 가락에 맞춰 빙빙 돌고돌는 가운데 즐거운 추석의 열기가 절로 뿜어나왔다.
학기가 시작된지 얼마안되 서먹거렸던 기분은 온데간데 없이 사라지고, 마주잡은 손들을 꼭 쥐고 흔들며, 재밌는 한국어 수업에 대한 기대감을 한껏 키웠다!
